Solar Panel Systems
Worcester Bosch offer a choice of high or standard efficiency solar panels in either portrait or landscape versions to suit a variety of roof sizes and shapes. These panels, part of the Greenskies range, come with a 10 year guarantee and are available for on-roof, roof integration, flat roof and wall mounted at 45° installation options.
As with most panels, the pipework is filled with a ready-mixed liquid, containing glycol and water, which is circulated by a pump to the coil in the hot water storage cylinder.
The Worcester Bosch Greenskies solar panels offer either 5% or 12% total solar energy loss through reflection making them highly efficient regardless of type used.
Cylinder
The Greenskies cylinder is a stainless steel unvented twin-coil storage cylinder. It’s specifically designed to be installed in conjunction with Worcester Greenskies solar water heating panels. The cylinder is available in 4 sizes, 180, 210, 250 and 300 litres and is supplied complete with all the necessary safety and control devices needed to connect to the cold water mains .
Controls
Two primary controllers are available, a simple controller and an intelligent controller.
Simple Controller: The simple controller allows the user to select the temperature required at the hot water cylinder. The controller then automatically decides when to run the pump to bring the energy from the solar panels to the cylinder.
Intelligent Controller: The intelligent controller enables the hot water system to take heat from the solar panels but brings the boiler back on when there’s not enough solar energy available. This way, the user gets maximum benefit from solar heating while ensuring that hot water is always available.
Pump
Standard AGS2 solar pump stations are used complete with integrated pressure and temperature dials.
Glycol Heat Transfer Liquid
The heat transfer liquid used is TyfocorL which is available in 25L containers. The Glycol uses a concentration of antifreeze and water to give protection against freezing.
Ground Source Heat Pumps
The Greenstore ground source heat pumps are suitable for a variety of properties and are designed to be the sole source of heating and hot water in the home. They are available in two formats, System and Combi. The System heat pumps require a separate cylinder while the Combi heat pumps have an integrated cylinder.
Heat Pump Controls
Greenstore heat pumps are controlled by the Rego 637 control unit. They are equipped with both an outdoor and a room sensor. The outdoor sensor which determines the temperature outside of the property and relays this back to the heat pump. The control on the heat pump uses a heat curve to provide a corresponding flow temperature from the appliance, always endeavouring to provide the lowest flow temperature possible yet still maintain desired room temperatures. The room sensor supplements the control of the heat pump. This allows the controller to compare the internal and external temperatures, providing the best possible energy savings.
Air to Water Heat Pumps
The Greensource Air To Water heat pump converts latent energy in the air - even on the coldest days - into heat for the home. The air source heat pump system comprises an outdoor and indoor unit. The outdoor unit extracts the energy in air outside the property. This energy is absorbed by a refrigerant solution which is compressed to a higher temperature. The indoor unit then uses the heat generated by the outdoor unit to create hot water for a traditional pressurised heating and hot water system.
Cylinders
Worcester offers a range of 2 unvented cylinders for exclusive use with Greenstore System heat pumps. The cylinders are available in 180 and 280 litre sizes according to hot water requirements. Greenstore cylinders feature a tank-in-tank design whereby the domestic hot water tank is surrounded by primary water to provide a large heat transfer surface area along the cylinder to make the most of the energy from the heat pump.
In common with the Combination heat pumps, the cylinders have been approved to Part G3 of the Building Regulations.
Both cylinders include integrated indirect heat exchange coils in the lower section of the tank to allow Worcester Greenskies to be connected to provide solar water heating in conjunction with the heat pump.
